DRACULAS A Novel of Terror edition by JA Konrath Blake Crouch Jack Kilborn F Paul Wilson Jeff Strand Literature Fiction eBooks

Interesting concept...four authors contributing to one story, each taking the point of view of a select group of characters. In this regard, they did really well...the story flows seamlessly, and the reader isn't aware of a different set of hands at the wheel as he or she progresses from one point of view to another (the POV changes replace traditional chapters in this book).

As a long time horror fan, especially where vampires are concerned, I was glad that the "draculas" in this book weren't portrayed in a "Twilight" fashion - they were horrific creatures, blinded to all but their insatiable blood lust, which they sought at any and all costs.

Without revealing any spoilers, it was good to see the central "dracula", the one who started the roller coaster ride into hell, actually give a tip of the hat to the more traditional, Stoker-like vampire that we've all grown up with.

As a critique, however, and my reasoning for three, rather than four stars, too much of a good thing is not always a good thing. I'd have liked to see more interaction with the characters that didn't involve beheading, disemboweling, and other varied means of turning bodies inside out. I have no issue with a gory scene, as long as it fits and supports the story being told, but when these scenes basically become the story being told, I tend to become less interested and more jaded. I would very much have preferred to have seen less of these scenes, and had the authors focus more on that tip of the hat that I referred to above...I won't elaborate further, as I don't want to create any spoilers for those who want to read this, and have not yet had the chance.

DRACULAS A Novel of Terror edition by JA Konrath Blake Crouch Jack Kilborn F Paul Wilson Jeff Strand Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Lets be honest here, this book isn't going to ever be considered a classic piece of literature. But that was never the intention. This is just 4 authors having some fun trying to create the most brutal, gory, and scary story they can when vampires are unleashed in a remote hospital. This story is over the top and often even campy, but again, that is what the authors wanted. The simplest way I can describe this is if you imagined Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino decided to make a vampire movie together. This would be the type of movie they would make. What I also loved about this book, is that in the extras you get a couple of short stories including the great "serial". And I also loved the deleted scenes with explanations for why they were deleted. Finally they include all of the 4 author's emails that they had between each other during the construction of this book. This book was created entirely through email interactions, and anyone that is an aspiring writer could definitely learn something about the writing process when reading these emails.
Draculas is an old-school vampire story written in the Konrath style of point-of-view changes instead of chapter breaks. This keeps the flow smooth, the pace steady, the story completely engaging. With four very talented writers contributing, the characters are realistic individuals, different from one another in real world fashion, their individuality expertly presented with each point-of-view shift. Love some, hate some; the characters are quite compelling.

The vampires in Draculas are monsters of old, nothing romantic about them. The violence, gore, and terror herein is graphic to the point of extreme horror Some of the content can be said to cross that line, so be aware this is not for the squeamish or easily offended.

This novel is filled with very dark humor, a touch of romance, shocking gore, nerve shredding suspense, and graphic violence. This mixture evokes a delightfully twisted rollercoaster of emotions as the story progresses.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, you’ll lose your lunch.

This terror ride is wholly enjoyable for the discerning and daring reader.
You must be a truer horror and gore fan to appreciate this book. I found it so good I've read it twice and will read it again. No literary challenge nor thought provoking here just good old fashion horror almost from the first page. Yes you can sometimes predict the story line but the never ending suspense will give you an anxiety attack. One of the most fun books I have ever read. I especially liked the fact that nothing's off limits in this book. Can't recommend it highly enough if you really like horror and gore.
